Bittorrent is an amazing application and is a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol used for distributing large amounts of data very easily. Seeders and Leechers are the two important factor involved when downloading in a torrent.
Seeders are people who have already downloaded the file and are uploading them the more seeders the faster the download. Leechers are people who are sharing what they have and are downloading what you have. When a person’s download finishes, he then becomes seeders from leechers. Sometimes downloading in a torrent may be very annoying because of low download speeds therefore here you need to keep one thing in mind that is seeders should be more than leechers then only your download will be fast.
How to make bittorrent download faster
- Always select the torrent file that has huge number of seeders. The more seeds there are, the faster your download will be, so when you search for torrent files on the web, sort your search results by the most seeds first.
- If you are using a router then make sure you have proper port forwarding set up. If you don’t have proper setting for your router then log in to your particular router and adjust the settings. Find the settings related to “port forwarding” or “virtual server”. Choose a number above 5000, say 7645, and set up port forwarding on that port to your IP address on the subnet. In windows go to Start – Run – cmd and enter the command “netstat” to find your IP.
- After completing the above step go and open up your torrent client and click on option then go to preferences and then connection settings. Change the port to the same one you set up forwarding for on your router. Now restart the client and your downloads should be up to five times as fast.
- Another thing that you can do, you need to configure your torrent client to allow 50-100 max half-open TCP connections. For this go to options – preferences – advanced option – net.max_halfopen.
