As the headline implies, according to a new study conducted by the World Bank , about three-quarters of the world population currently has access to a phone.
The number of telephone subscribers has create a web lines in the last 12 years. In 2000 subscriptions were just under 1 billion, while today there are about 6 billion active subscriptions . In addition, last year alone have been downloaded more than 30 billion apps in the App Store. A very special is that the vast majority of subscriptions (corresponding to 5 billion) live in developing countries , a figure that marks the importance of mobile technology in these countries.
“The mobile communications offer significant opportunities to promote human development and economic that provides access to basic health information, gaming and facilitate payments, more stimulating for the creation of new jobs and public participation processes Democrats ” said by Rachel Kyte, Vice President of the World Bank. “The challenge now is to enable people, enterprises and governments of developing countries can develop their applications in order to fully exploit these opportunities mentioned” .
The surveys found a great use of the mobile payments in Kenya and the demand for work -related applications-development in Palestine. Smartphones and wireless subscriptions are still outside the reach of most people. Consequently, many of the applications used in these countries have been designed for use on low bandwidth, so often using WAP, SMS and other technology considered “low-tech” by all people working in the field.
