Google spends around Rs 100 Crore for 100 new domains

Google pays around Rs.100 crores to get .google, .youtube, .goog and .plus as domains. It has also tried to ge .love butseven other companies are also in the race to catch it.The most wanted domain was found to be .app which has 13 applicants.

Google was more ambitious among the applicants as it readily spent around Rs.100 crores for more than 100 domains. Among the other applicants were Microsoft, Amazon, Johnson & Johnson , Apple, etc.

Microsoft applied for .docs and .live whereas Amazon applied for 17 top-lavel domains like .wow, .search, .shop, .drive, .free, .game, .mail, .map, .movie, .music, .play, .shop, .show, .spot, .store, .talk and .you. Aplle applied for .apple. Johnson & Johnson apllied for .baby which for me is the cutest among the rests. Google was the only applicant of the domains like .fly, .new and .eat.

Facebook is expected to be not among the applicants. The domains are the letters that follow the dot in Internet addresses for example .com, .org and .net, etc.

ICANN is expected to approve hundreds of these extensions, the first of which should be in use by next year. ICANN had set the application fee high, at Rs.1,01,75,000 a name, to try to discourage frivolous bids; still, more than 200 terms are being sought by more than one bidder. ICANN decides who gets ownership of the contested top-level domains  ICANN will take the applications into consideration.

Lets wait for the next news to see who gets what and for how much. In the race Google is leading by 100 top-level domains in its pocket. Hope that Amazon & others also gets its desired amount of domains also.
